Brooklyn-based photographer Mike Spears’ Instagram page is informed by playful urban life, skateboarding and beach culture, sexuality and psychedelia. Spears’ signature aesthetic : flash-drenched portraits, still-life abstractions, even a Stephen Shore topographical vibe. Fruit is often photographed erotically. Spears grew up in Puerto Rico and wants his work from the island to feel familiar with a sense of documentary escapism.
